Friends of Portugal event in Visalia expands the organization’s reach
This past month, Central California became the hub for an innovative event dedicated entirely to the progress of Portugal.
Friends of Portugal (FoP) hosted the second of three events in The Lakes Clubhouse in Visalia, gathering over 100 people through table sponsorships. This was the largest event ever hosted by the organization and proved to be a great success with nearly $6,000 raised for local projects in Portugal.
Many individuals passionate and interested about helping create progress in Portugal gathered together that night, including members of the Central Valley Azorean immigrant community. Over glasses of vinho verde, rose, linguiça, olives and Fado music, FoP hosted its guests to a silent auction and Portugal products purchased ahead of a delicious BBQ buffet dinner.
The event was pleased to have Sr. Diniz Borges, the Honorary Consul of Portugal to California attend. Sr. Borges spoke about the major new initiatives involving California State University, Fresno in their new Portuguese Bible Institute.
FoP also connected with Kendra Fowler from the Office of the Congressman Devin Nunes, with the possibility of future meetings in D.C. regarding the organization. Congressman Nunes is very prominent in the U.S. Congressional Caucus.
In addition to the table sponsorships, FoP received several pledges of support that will be of great use for the organization’s efforts in Portugal.
Throughout the event, FoP emphasized its commitment to the “In Portugal. For Portugal” motto, one that expresses the organization’s goal of keeping the Portuguese in Portugal, seeing progress and economic growth reach this great nation and creating a vibrant country where vocation, community, family and faith are all honored and strengthened.
